Over the course of the next few weeks i will be highlighting bets i like and think should be struck.1. ANNIE POWER @ 5/4 ( Betfair ) ( NAP )
This is as low as 4/5 ( Mares Hurdle ) with the likes of Paddy Power and it looks in a different class to those around it in the mares brigade dont get me wrong there are a few very nice sorts around but in my eyes Annie Power is a proper " World Class " sort in lives on a tier without peers.
2. L'ami Serge > No bet in the Supreme on this just yet as i feel the 9/2 isnt great Value for what is still basically a " talking Horse " but is still high on my possible list.
3. **This is an UPDATE ** > Un De Sceaux , Saw this run yesterday ( Jan 25th ) and WOW it was only a 3 runner event but it demolished two very good rivals whilst giving weight away and i have this provisionally rated at around 168 which gives this upto 20lb in hand on its nearest two market rivals and a few tenuous form lines gives Vautour and Josses Hill no chance in this in fact even at the current price of 10/11 i make this a stand out bet as i have seen nothing of this calibre for some time , this was a very very impressive run.( NB )
4. The CHAMPION Hurdle and HURRICANE FLY is way too big @ 14/1 ( Bet Victor ) , yes i know he is in the twilight of his career and yes the opposition looks as strong as ever and yes the upcoming Irish Champion trial will give more clues but he beat Jezki quite cosily last time out and looks as strong a force as ever , The New One is a fav of mine and will be better on a quicker surface but still has a wee bit to prove , Jezki himself may not be the " next best thing " we all thought and maybe just another very good horse whilst Faugheen could be absolutely anything but has beaten little yet and has rarely been off the bridle so is very impressive but Even money in this field..nah fuck off!!...Hurricane doesnt have to be your only bet in this but at 14/1 deserves a place on everyone's list EW.
5. NH Chase...a race thats a bit of a misnomer and this is wide open and should just be left and on the day if you fancy a bet just dutch 4 or 5 in double figures thru the middle of the field.
6. The NEPTUNE , TEA FOR TWO as low as 10/1 with 888 and Titan Bet but 25/1 with Betfair and 20/1 in a few other places this beast has improved an absolute Ton and not the shitty foreign or metric Tonne but the whole big UK Ton...this recently Won the Lanzarote and when i say Won i mean it arseholed a good field of decent handicappers routing them into a procession up the straight and the Neptune is exactly the type of race this is made for and i think this is way way too big at 25/1 and even the 20/1 is a decent price worth an EW for sure imo.
7. RSA , a race that usually holds those that have failed at the very top and will be looking to rebuild a reputation or some consolation money , Now PITT ZIG is generally a 12/1 or 14/1 chance on most books for this and personally i think his targets lay elsewhere but the price is still a rather cautious one however i absolutely love the 180/1 on Betfair...may not run but wow what a fucking price if it does!!...worth a tenner on the nose " just in case ".
8. CHAMPION CHASE : SPRINTER SACRE is 3/1 with Betway and could look an absolute gift after the event as it really ought to be 4/5 which makes it tremendous value however its comeback run although " not bad " was a good bit shy ( in fact around 22lb ) of what it had previously achieved and i think the old glory days are spent ....that said this year is a very weak looking year and Dodging Bullets will struggle to enact the career best run it put in lto when getting the better of SS and at around 5/1 i would lay this all day long , Sire de Grugy has to show his own injury woes are behind him and the remainder are much of a muchness with nothing standing out....do i feel the 3/1 is a good price ?..hell yeah but its a bet where you have to take on trust that SS will be improved for his run lto as a run in the low 160's probably wont suffice here but a run in the low 170's could.
9. The BUMPER and for this i will be looking at STONE HARD although not entered yet and not listed for a price ( races today ) i have been told rather confidently that this is by far the best bumper in a yard packed full of top quality.
**This Won today by a very easy 14L and looks top drawer and has been given a quote of 14/1 for the bumper and im all over that.
10. The JLT and this is likely to be the race for Pitt Zig however i really like VAUTOUR and now its jumping seems to have improved i am confident of a big run from this and the 7/2 i think is a fair if not outstanding price.
11. RYANAIR - I will stick with DYNASTE in some forlorn hope it can show me that its the superstar i actually believe it can be but the 11/2 isnt great but hey ho its a " lemming " bet.
12. WORLD HURDLE a nice race and one i traditionally like and Annie Power is entered in although highly unlikely to run but at 40/1 with Betfair ( 4/1 or so everywhere else ) i am having a go..just in case lol with ROCK ON RUBY at 11/1 as this i feel is a decent price for a class horse who can turn it on when in the mood having never really shone like we thought he has found some old spark and could turn out a very good run.
13. The TRIUMPH and this years renewal looks one of the strongest in recent years and will be one of the best races on the weeks card and im still on the PEACE N CO bandwagon although he will have to win well at Donny on Saturday to justify my faith and as i feel the 5/2 is a shitty price i have done a " Win @ Donny & Cheltenham Double " @ 8/1...for the stake i was betting on the single if he wins as i expect then i will simply lay off my stake at the new n improved price on betfair...or lick my wounds or our lasses Axe wound...or both...
14. Finally we have the GOLD CUP and im finding impossible to get away from 'CONTI a horse that should have won this last year but lost his marbles completely after jumping the last and looks a much safer proposition this time round after a couple of rounds of superb jumping and the 3/1 is enough for me to get involved.
*****Favourite bets so far : Double with ANNIE POWER / Un De Sceaux both of whom i think are absolutely nailed on at this time and a possible treble or even 4 fold with Peace and Co & 'Conti....but the double is a definite.
