The BIG Saturday Card..

And its for Ascot as a couple of readers made the effort to comment and engage in some conversation which makes a very nice change to just chatting inanely to myself ...i hope i can turn this effort into a winner or two or a couple of Winning bets or at the very least offer some guidance in his betting day ;-)..
                              ***************************************
ASCOT

RACE 1 : AIM TO PROSPER - EW - 2nd @ 3.85
A tight race over an obscure trip with three very closely matched rivals namely , Up and Go , Sausalito Sunrise and AIM TO PROSPER and it is the latter i will be pinning my hopes on here.
Why , well thats a damn good question and i must point out that firstly and rather un- scientifically this is a selection of the " heart over head " design as this is a horse i am desperate to see succeed a horse with an endless amount of class and ability....until he sees a hurdle then he becomes a very average horse and one of very limited ability...which is a crying shame because if this could jump like it can travel then we would have another Kribensis , this stays no problem and can race on most ground types from Good/Firm to Good/Soft a horse that has won the Cesarewitch not once but twice!!...this does deserve a break and it will get it once the penny has dropped about jumping when that does happen this could be as good as anything out there...but jumping lazily , not picking his legs up and running down hurdles costs big time so i will be placing my bets and hoping that he has learnt something and that finally he realise that to be a winner he has to jump.
Form wise Copper Birch has as much chance as any now that 2L 2nd to Fishers Cross reads superbly well but this did disappoint on its last run and is best watched imo, couldnt back nor lay.
Up and Go's career reads " Wins or Falls " but has won well and against some good opposition and should not be under estimated and if Aim to Prosper is to win then he will have to be at the top of his game.
Sausalito Sunrise probably has the weakest form of those mentioned but does love the ground, stays all day and has a great attitude and is open to bags of improvement and it would not shock if this won.
the only anomaly i can find in the early market is with Royal Guardsman which is currently 16.0 when it should be nearer 30.0...
WIN - UP AND GO - 1st @ 2.81
EW- AIM TO PROSPER - 2nd @ 3.85
LONG - COPPER BIRCH -
**************************************************

RACE 2 : ROCKY CREEK - ( WIN ) - 1st @ 1.72
Now we have the Reynoldstown a Grade 2 3m Chase for Novices and its a small field affair but high on quality but it will take a epic and career best performance to lower the colours of Rocky Creek a very likeable sort with huge ability and a horse just starting to realise its own potential and its recent thrashing off Fill the Power by 15L was on the back of a gut busting 2nd splitting a good pair in Gullunbursti & Harry Topper and that is excellent form which has been franked ( not that it really needed to be ) and on a very strict and literal form line using Harry Topper the Plumb Line then Houblon Des Obeaux ( HDO )  has 2L to find which in all fairness is as near to fuck all as you need as you can make or lose that with a jumping error so literally form wise there is nothing to split them and Bearing in mind that HDO does have some quite smart form himself just getting out gunned by the smart and progressive Captain Conan and Court in Motion but last seasons thrashings at the hands of Cape Tribulation would suggest that HDO is a likeable sort with a fair amount of ability but a bit short off top class and for me is avoided.
Real Milan comes into the picture as a live threat and again using the imperious Harry Topper as our form key then there is even less to separate these main protagonists based on Real Milans superb run last year in the Albert Bartlett at the Festival ( beaten 14L by Brindisi Breeze ( RIP ) however its next run was in a 3 runner race and it only beat Poole Master 6L ( doggish and thrashed recently )  and then beating some rag n bone sorts leaving a very low grade look to his form and with that is also readily over looked.
Tour Des Champs has a good looking profile but looks can be deceiving as this also raced in the Betfair Lotto Chase in which Rocky Creek thrashed Fill the Power by 15L and was well and truly beaten before falling and i see absolutely no reason at all why this should hold any chance of reversing the form, so is over looked.
All said and done , after analysing all relevant facts and reviewing all form lines i simply do not know how Rocky Creek can lose this, it has its two main protagonists beaten by lateral form another beaten on literal form and the remainder just are not good enough..... Quite Simply..ROCKY CREEK = NAP.

WIN - ROCKY CREEK - 1st @ 1.72
EW-N/A
LONG - N/A
**************************************************
RACE 3 : ASHKAZAR ( EW ) - Unplaced ( Threw an absolute shocker, but it wasnt totally a surprise , Vino Griego Ran well and held on for the Win )
Moving on we now have a Listed Hcap chase over 3m  and this is tricky as a few may well be prepping for a tilt at the National , others are out of form , a few are just poor and there is nearly a stone in weight difference from top to bottom so this is indeed a puzzle to solve.
Personally i will be having a small EW on my HCE Saturday tipping comp horse ASHKAZAR this is from the Pipe stable and ridden by Timmy Murphy and is a horse with a great deal of talent in fact its what you could call a group horse...on its day...but those days when it decides to run to form are extremely hard to fathom as you have no idea what mood this will be in on the day so you back this and just hope that it has its happy head on , If running as well as it can it could rout these but is just as likely to pull itself up at the third fence...yes its that quirky.
Form wise i would say coming into this race then Vino Griego is probably the most in form however it does have the extra 10lb to carry from its lto win and it has shown previously that when it runs over any extended trips a tendency to weaken and not see out a finish and that is enough for me to rule this out.
The Rainbow Hunter and Saint Are are the two i feel most likely to be fighting out a finish as both have some recent form , both are distance winners , both like the ground and the remainder are a mixture of dour & dire.
WIN - SAINT ARE - 3rd @ 9.28
EW - THE RAINBOW HUNTER - 4th
LONG - ASHKAZAR - shit
***************************************************
RACE 4 : TANGO DE JUILLEY ( EW ) -
Next up its a Hcap Hurdle over the odd 3m3f trip , a decent size filed and rather competitive and a very big 21lb swing in the weights means i will be focusing away from the top guns for sure.
The Bear Trap is getting a ton of weight from most of this field , has AP in the saddle and some tidy form to offer so has to go on the shortlist..surely?...well not for me it doesnt , it travels very well but finds nil , its over all form profile is weak and i just cant how this can get involved here , i have at least 4 or 5 in front and this is readily over looked.
The Cockney Mackem is or at least looks like an exposed stayer and is not a horse i like much and is struck off with ease.
Kuilsriver .( 1st @ 59.0 )...now this i think at a huge price has the ability and race conditions to sneak a place ( currently 42.0 ) for those of you that like to " chance their arm " then this is not too bad a bet tbh , highly tried in racing against the likes of Tetlami , Zarkander , Keys , Medinas...and racing in fast paced bustling fields ( Triumph Hurdle ) this has the experience and knowledge to back up some obvious ability...there are far worse bets out there today than this.
Queens Grove has won its last four races and a couple in taking fashion but they were in a much lower grade and there was a lot of dead wood in those rubbers , this i feel is too steep a rise in class and should be reaily blown away.
The three i am mainly focusing on are , GENERAL MILLER , HOLD COURT & TANGO DE JUILLEY , with the former and the latter having over a year away from the course this presents a new set of problems but both Henderson and Williams are adept at getting their runners ready fto and for me this doesnt pose a problem , General Miller is a horse with undoubted ability but has rarely raced beyond the comfort of 2m but this has raced in some very high profile races at Punchestown ( Champion Hurdle )  , Big races at Cheltenham and Aintree and against some very useful types including a 5L 2nd to the mighty Overturn and there is nothing on his breeding to suggest that this wont stay but betting this does come with risks.
Hold Court has form that is miles apart from each other , lto it was thrashed into 3rd 37L by The New One  but prior had beat Heronry ( 4th ) by 15L ( won yesterday ) so its hard to grasp just now , is it the real deal or does it flatter to deceive?...for me the jury is out however it would be no shock to see this up there at the finish, and Finally we have The Venetia Williams trained TANGO DE JUILLEY a horse with definite ability but another to prove it can stay but i have a strong rather non scientific gut feeling that VW has had this as a fully planned prep for Cheltenham or even Aintree and i think this will go really well today.

WIN - HOLD COURT -
EW - TANGO DE JUILLEY -
LONG - GENERAL MILLER -
***************************************************
RACE 5 : CUE CARD ( WIN ) - 1st @ 2.84
This is the BIG race for today the Betfair Ascot Chase a Grade 1 over 2m 5f with a small but select field but an easy call for me to make.
Finians Rainbow is a lovely horse that has done well for a one with limited ability , caught a few breaks and snatched a few wins but this is way off the top shelf in the yard and in this race i feel it will be lucky to get even a place, beaten soundly by Somersby ( been below par so far this season tho ) in the Victor Chandler , Beaten Fair n Square by Captain Chris ( in the Amlin by 24l ) and not as good as Cue Card means this is auto scratched along with Pigeon Island & Ghizao as neither of these are anywhere near good enough to compete at this level.
This really lies between Somersby , Captain Chris and CUE CARD , now Captain Chris is a cracking horse but i really feel it needs every bit of the 3m it last ran over as all its best work was being done at the end , then we have Somersby a horse i love that ran a wee bit flat fto behind SS but if that has sharpened him up could easily be swinging on the bridle 2 out then its race on against the one that i feel will be the eventual winner and that is CUE CARD , eased when beaten over a longer trip lto this is much more his field and race and will be 100% gteed to run his race and another decent win is on the ( Cue ) Cards! ;-)

WIN - CUE CARD - 1st @ 2.84
EW - SOMERSBY -
LONG - CAPTAIN CHRIS - 2nd @ 4.10
***************************************************
RACE 6 : FAR WEST - ( WIN ) - 1st @ 1.63
A 2m Novice Hurdle and this is a straight fight between River Maigue and FAR WEST and i take the latter to win although there is nothing to split this pair.

WIN - FAR WEST - 1st @ 1.63
EW - RIVER MAIGUE - 2nd @ 2.72
LONG - N/A
***************************************************
RACE 7 : CAPTAIN CUTTER ( NB ) - ( WIN ) - 3rd @ 2.79 ( Disappointed tbh , never really travelled that well yet AP still wanted to race from the back..Pfft ruined a good 4 fold, guess its just the treble today! )..
And finally we have the race of the day for me the nhf race and im really looking to seeing CAPTAIN CUTTER race  ( and win ) here as this is the beez neez ( so im told ) and this should be winning this today and then moving onto some far bigger targets.
Red Sherlock is the 1.93 Fav ? , is this because it won by 24L lto ?..may be but it still ran that in a SLOWER time over CD than Captain Cutter and you can forget the rest they will be fighting for third place only...

WIN - CAPTAIN CUTTER - 3rd @ 2.79
EW - RED SHERLOCK - 1st @ 1.76
LONG - N/A

Can Chris be a Captain???

Philip Hobbs expects Captain Chris to handle testing ground at Ascot

Captain Chris: Expected to handle the testing ground at Ascot on Saturday
Captain Chris: Expected to handle the testing ground at Ascot on Saturday

Sky Bet

Philip Hobbs feels Captain Chris will adapt to the testing ground when he goes for glory in the Betfair Ascot Chase on Saturday.
The nine-year-old handled conditions well enough to win the Amlin 1965 Chase at the Berkshire course in November, and then ran a tremendous race in the King George VI Chase at Kempton when he was only beaten a neck by Long Run.
"Ideally he wants better ground but he won the Amlin on heavy. He seems in great form and he was always going to have a few weeks off after the King George," said Hobbs.
"You can always supplement for the Ryanair, but the Gold Cup has always been the plan and we want to keep our horses apart.
"He ran a fantastic race at Kempton and is in very good form. He always had a tendency to jump right, so it shouldn't matter too much at Ascot."
Finian's Rainbow has something to prove after finishing a well-beaten last of four behind Captain Chris on his seasonal reappearance.
Last year's Queen Mother Champion Chase hero has had a wind operation since then and needs a run.
"We've always said we don't want to run him on soft ground, but we haven't got a choice and there's nowhere else to go. I'd have loved to have had another week but I want to give him a run and we will be able to decide about Cheltenham after Saturday," said Henderson.
Colin Tizzard expects Cue Card's performance will tell him which race to go for at Cheltenham, the Ryanair Chase or the sportingbet.com Queen Mother Champion Chase.
The seven-year-old has to put behind him a disappointing display in the King George when he failed to last out the three miles.
"This is a race we planned from Christmas to take in before Cheltenham," said Tizzard.
"He didn't get three miles on heavy ground on Boxing Day. Whether he'll get three miles another day there, I don't know.
"Our view is if he's going to run in the Ryanair he needs to nearly win this.
"If he doesn't stay he can go back and take on Sprinter Sacre in the Champion Chase.
"We will keep the options open to the end, but Ascot should show us which way we are going to go at Cheltenham."
Somersby was far from disgraced on his first run of the campaign, when third to Sprinter Sacre in the rearranged Victor Chandler Chase at Cheltenham. The Mick Channon-trained gelding had won that race last season when it was at its traditional home at Ascot when he defeated Finian's Rainbow.
Somersby's rider Dominic Elsworth is expecting a decent run as the nine-year-old returns to the Berkshire venue.
"I'm looking forward to it. I was pleased with his run at Cheltenham and he has come out of the race well," he said.
"Obviously it was his first run for a while and he was against Sprinter Sacre, so you had to be pleased enough with the run.
"The ground wouldn't have been ideal for him, it was really testing. He's back at Ascot, where he has run very well in the past, and I don't see the trip being too much of an issue - he has won over two and a half miles."
Ghizao was well ahead of Finian's Rainbow when third to Captain Chris here in November. His co-owner Andy Stewart believes the nine-year-old will be hard pressed to land this prize.
"He is 100% fine, but probably not good enough to beat Cue Card. It's a competitive race," he said. "He has got it all to do."
Pigeon Island is likely to be the complete outsider and his jockey Sam Twiston-Davies is hoping they can grab some of the prize money on offer.
"You will always get a great ride off him. It would be nice to nick a bit of prize money. Anything more we will be very grateful for," he told At The Races.
"It's a very open race and obviously Captain Chris is a very good horse.
"

The Saturday Review will be...

Ascot....i am undecided on what to do ? , a full in depth card , a single NAP , some speculators?...decisions, decisions...You guys decide on how you want me to post tmrw....No comments = No Post....go on make my day easy and do what you normally do....;P

Friday Evening Wolver'n card ;-)

This is becoming almost a tradition now lol...lets take a gander thru the Wolverhampton card for this evening...

RACE 1 :
A fairly weak looking Hcap over the true 5f ( and 20yds ) and a few arrive here with a bit of form but there is one trainer i follow very strongly here and that is Reg Hollinshead as he seems to like it here ( home track i think ? , dont quote me on that ) and he has Scarlet Strand which ran a good race when 3rd here over the extended 5f ( 200yds ) tiring at the end and this may be best for him however that was sandwiched between two very poor runs so a bet here has to be on trust.
I do feel DANGEROUS AGE is the most likely winner here , holds Magic Ice on recent runs and looks a better sort than the others at this stage and with Frank riding has to be in with a shout.

WIN : DANGEROUS AGE - 1st @ 2.02
EW - SCARLET STRAND -
**********************************************
RACE 2 :
Another 5f Hcap but its a race full to the brim with nothing more than utter fucking shit!!...and you gtee that Tesco's will be round the back sniffing for a bargain! , These races are types that i do by and large leave alone as they are just plain awful and you will go broke quick backing in these consistently.
However if i was at the track or wanted a selection for a placepot then i would be on CADMIUM LOCH ( EW ) .

WIN - CADMIUM LOCH ( EW ) - 4th ( Beaten a hd )
***********************************************
RACE 3:
I see no reason to go against PARTY PALACE here as this is effectively a winner without a penalty as it won a hands n heels race lto but in a time marginally quicker than Speed Steed's ( both over CD ) and i think little quinny is a better jockey and gets the vote from me , i think these two shud be fighting out the finish, well at least one and i may end up just lumping on Party Palace in the place market as i feel that is 100% nailed on , a Dutch on these two is also a solid bet.

WIN - PARTY PALACE - 2nd @ 21.0 ( 4.22 ) BoooM ;-)
EW -  STEED SPEED -
************************************************
RACE 4 :
This is a very tricky Claimer with there being almost nothing to separate most of these although both FAITHFUL RULER & ONE WAY OR ANOTHER both stand out as the most likeliest winners and Honey of a Kitten as a nailed on MAX LAY ( 3rd ).This is not however a race to go over board on, small stakes if any as its wide open apart from HOAK as that is regressing at a rate of knots.

WIN - FAITHFUL RULER -
EW - ONE WAY OR ANOTHER -
LONG - REFRESHTHEPARTS - 1st @ 3.70
*************************************************
RACE 5 :
An absolute pig shit of a maiden here but its the race that carries the evenings Mega Nap in HE'S A STRIKER rated a rather generous 78 this could run to 68 and still win on the bridle , yes Al Sulami and Secret Advice should both come on for their recent runs but He's a Striker's 2nd ( HD ) behind Altharoos at Beverley is miles clear in form terms and there is no way that either of them are 80 rated horses , i think maybe 64-68 ( tops ) and cannot see them troubling this, fitness is obviously a question and lack of a recent spin but i still think this only needs be at 75% to win comfortably.
WIN - HE'S A STRIKER - 2nd @ 1.31 ;-(...gifted some winnings back there...
**************************************************
RACE 6 :
Now we have possibly the  classiest race of the card , a 7f Hcap with all the runners in some state of form with most having recent good runs under their belt and quite a big divide in the weights ( over a stone top>bottom ) but the two i really like here are STREET BATTLE & GRILLETO , The former hacked up by 7l over CD and is open to any amount of improvement and the latter also won over CD lto in a nursery and looks a likely sort that worth keeping onside with as Teophillip has run poorly on the AW either side of its nice win in Heavy Ground whilst Staffhos and Lucky Di both seem to find at least 1 or 2 too good although both are due a win i just dont think today will be their day.
WIN - STREET BATTLE -
EW - GRILLETO -
**************************************************
RACE 7 :
And in this finale we have a small field but competitive 1m4f Hcap and is probably the 2nd toughest race of the day with the front 3 being very closely matched , you have the Hat Trick seeking Broxbourne ,  CD Winner Rosies Lady & Bernisdale and i fancy the drop back in trip will suit BROXBOURNE and i will have a go with that.
WIN - BROXBOURNE -
***************************************************

Oh My...

Morning All , had another great Smash n Grab yesterday and another profitable day and i absolutely smashed the football and i was going to post up my green screens but i just thought nah..you dont need to see em ( although i have shown a few members with whom i was chatting with last night ) but yesterday was easily the best day of football trading i have ever had...
As we move up the gears a bit and move towards the weekend i am starting to feel my buzz coming back after having a very easy week and doing very little , this has recharged me and helped me gather my focus as i feel that too often you can get stuck in a rut and lose that magic bit of edge you need.
We do have quite a good looking set of cards to go at over the weekend as more n more Cheltenham hopefuls stake there claim or try to prove themselves and others looking to take advantage of grade drops and light weights and today we will try and get some roll built up to attack the weekends runners and i do have 6 yes 6 NAPS!!!!....well in reality you can only have 1 stand out NAP so i will show you my Six Shooter of Naps and discuss what i feel are there real relative chance on a scale of 1 - 5 and try and highlight one that i feel is " The " NAP to hammer...
So heres my Six for today...

1. PISTOL - ( 2.18 ) ( 4.5/5 ) - * MASTER NAP * - 1st @ 2.19 ( BooooooM Get In !! )
13:20 Sandown , This i feel has an outstanding chance on form after running a very sound race 1st time out coming 2nd to the nice sort Vasco D;ycy but more importantly was 6L clear of the third ( and 30L back to remainder ) Saphir Du Rheu a nice sort from the Nicholls yard and this has franked the form by winning next time out giving a thumping to the progressive God of the Kop which in turn had previously run a good race until tiring late on against the very promising Puffin Billy so all collateral form suggests this has nothing to fear from this field and barring mistakes and allowing for natural improvement ( not that it needs to ) this should be winning today and will attract a large bet from me.
****************************************
2. UTOPIE DES BORDES - ( 2.18 ) - ( 5/5 ) - 1st @ 2.38
14:25 Sandown , This backed big lto running on a feather weight and this won quite cosily as it should have done ( form line through Fago suggesting this should be quite useful ) and even with the interesting Twigline here i cannot see these having the mustard to beat this , a decent hurdler and a better chaser this easily stays this 2m4f trip ( gets further ) likes most ground types and proven in these conditions , travels well, quickens and battles , this is a proper horse and should be far too good for these and is another that is imo very big at 2.18...Another large bet from me.
*****************************************
3. MASTER OF THE GAME - ( 1.72 ) - ( 3.5/5 ) - 3rd ( LEVIATHAN 2nd )
15:30 Sandown , This is effectively a two horse race between Tominator and my Mater of the Game with both having a little something to prove.
" If " Master of the game has trained well ( wont lack for fitness ) and can run to a minimum of the form previously shown then i feel that it will be good enough to secure a win , Tominator won nicely on his introduction but then faded badly when upped in grade , a grade which i feel the fav is capable of competing in and its overall profile suggests its a more consistent beast and certainly more trustworthy.
My bet here is a LAY on Leviathan as i feel this has absolutely no fucking chance what so ever and even at 8.8...this will be easy money...lump this lay and fill your boots..satisfaction guaranteed 100%!!
******************************************
4. EVERDON BROOK - ( 2.36 ) - ( 4/5 ) - Unplaced ( 3rd ) - Ran patiently out the back , jumped tardily and never really put into the race , odd tactical ride.
14:15 Fakenham , This could turn out to be this years Hunt Ball as 2 years ago this was racing off a lowly 88 and its form dipped so much that just about a year ago it dropped to a very poor 73 now after a complete revitalisation job and a change of stable this has risen 36lb in the ratings since that change and is very much a horse full of confidence and is showing some real ability after lto beating a good looking Grade 3 field ( this is a drop in grade ) in a  authoritarian manner and should be followed until this bubble bursts - Decent Mid size bet for me.
*******************************************
5. FREE THINKING - ( 1.66 ) - ( 5/5 ) - 1st @ 1.41
16:30 Fakenham , This Demolished his field on the poly over 2m and if that form translates to the turf then this wins easy although that race wasnt strong this is no better but the price is an issue as i feel 1.66 is as low as it shud be imo this should be nearer 1.92-2.12 and it was available at 1.98 this morning but all the early money has gone which is a great shame so i will wait till nearer the off to decide on how much and what price ( may end up a BTB BFSP bet )...what ever happens i will be Max Lumping this ;-).
********************************************
6. NO RUNNER -
********************************************4 winning bets from 5 = a very good day and a happy me ;-)
So there we have it , in just the five for today as 1 is now a non runner from last night , some big bets from me today and i will also have all five in Trebles...Fingers crossed for a good day , oh and dont forget to MAX LAY leviathan..this will not be winning...i will be covering ALL of todays costs with this lay!!..get on and have a great day all , ttfn x
