Morning one n All ,
Well what a crackerjack of a day we have , Newmarket Maidens of the highest caliber , NH racing from the top draw with most of the big yards firing out some big guns including former King George Winner and perpetual under achiever Long Run plus we have a couple of super races at Wetherby although its very disappointing that At Fishers Cross has got a cut leg and has been withdrawn today...that is one serious horse and i was very much looking forward to seeing that run.
Some good news tho , Nick Schofield , a Jockey imo of the very top drawer and one whom i always have the utmost faith in being a very good horseman has now taken the 2nd jocks role at P Nicholls which will ensure some very good rides, more winners and a higher profile which is well deserved , if i had any horses in training in the NH scene then he would be my jockey of choice followed by Aiden Coleman and then Barry Geraghty....yes i know , i can hear you all shout.." wheres Mccoy or Ruby " ?....they are both world class but this is simply a choice made by me and im sure given the same choice we would all pick slightly differently.
Finally i have yet to mention either Ayr or Ascot which both look excellent today and both stage some very decent races with Ascot looking to be the most prestigious holding a variety of Group races ( Class 1's ) as well as other graded ( Group 3's ) as support...some very nice runners on show and a full , varied and interesting days racing lay ahead.
And lets not forget we have a strong looking UK/IRE turnout for Day 2 of the Breeders Cup tonight at Santa Anita ( i did well there yesterday ) so ..where does one start to look??...what shall i do ?...its been a tough choice but im going to stick my neck out and take a look at ASCOT >>>
ASCOT
RACE 1
WIN - OURMANMASSINI -
EW - SEDGEMOOR EXPRESS - 4th @ 11.0 ( Paid Top 4 )
LONG - AGINCOURT REEF -
SUMMARY :Letemgo sprang a surprise at Wincanton last month but this looks a lot tougher off a 5lb higher mark. Sedgemoor Express unseated his rider in that race but went on to finish second to the well-treated Makari over 2m at Ludlow. Hand On Bach is capable of winning races but Ballybach has a long absence to overcome and Kalmbeforethestorm invariably finds at least one too good. OURMANMASSINI has top weight and is still a maiden but definitely has ability and it would be no surprise to see him go close in a race that may not be as competitive as the numbers suggest.

RACE 2
WIN - IVORS KING - 1ST @ 7.80 ( BooooooooM )
EW - THUNDERSTORM -
LONG - PERSIAN SNOW - 3rd @ 9.86
SUMMARY : This is interesting in as much that Thunderstorm is very highly rated by the trainer and connections yet stable and retained jockey R Johnson has opted to ride the proven chaser Persian Snow ?...hmm..curious , however i feel they both have it to prove and against IVORS KING ( HCE TIP SEL ) they will have to be at there very best as Ivors King is not without ability and this was shown 2 runs ago when smashing an odds on Paul Nicholls runner by 5L this did run a bit lethargically last time but this CD winner will be far more at home here and im expecting a big run.

RACE 3
WIN - FAIRY RATH -
EW - ULK DU LIN -
LONG - NOTARFBAD -
SUMMARY : This looks as tough as any race today, a 2m1f Hcap Chase.....not a great betting platform tbh as so many come into these big events with outstanding chances and none are actually outstanding....
Last Years Winner Gus Macrae has to come into the reckoning racing off a 1lb lower mark but that is due to the lack of any real recent form and he will have to be at his peak to best some of these today.
FAIRY RATH is one i really like and with BG taking the reigns this only inspires greater confidence, This is also a CD winner and a winner over 20f so stays with pace and can race on any ground having been placed on soft, heavy and good ) and having won its last two this has to have a big chance of placing or better and at 8.2 or better looks a good , solid EW bet.
In all honesty tho there are a host of potential winners here with Drumshambo ( 1st @ 21.0 ) , Ulk Du Lin , King Edmund and Notafrbad all looking good, this should be a cracking race.

RACE 4
WIN - COURT MINSTREL -
EW - GIBB RIVER -
LONG - DILDAR - 3rd @ 13.0
SUMMARY : It doesnt get any easier now with a decent field for this 2m Listed event over hurdles and the first horse i can discount is Get Me Out of Here as i see no way this can give almost 2 Stone to some of these...no chance..thrashed out of sight in true grade 1 races and won well in lesser events giving this a rating it doesnt really deserve and probably cant win from ( like Hunt Ball ) this is a slight drop in class but it is still not good enough although its chances would be a lot stronger if off even weights.
I have been reliably informed that BIG things are expected from GIBB RIVER this term , out for almost a Year and a Half having suffered injuries and training setbacks this is well liked in the yard and they rate it top class and this is backed up by the jockey bookings , i will be following my man on the spot with the advice and having a go EW.
Chris Pea Green ( 2nd @ 9.46 ) is a very nice and on a going day is upto matching anything on offer here ( proven form ) and is worth noting , Pine Creek ( 1st @ 6.69 )is a typical Ferguson runner, looks the dogs bollocks until it races against anything half decent and is then found out but if improvement has been forthcoming then this has a very live chance.
And we have the likes of Rayvin Black , Jumps Road and Court Minstrel giving this a tough look , packed with future winners today will be all about fitness today..nothing else as so many are closely matched.

RACE 5
WIN - SAME DIFFERENCE -
EW - TRIOLO D'ALENE - 2nd @ 8.34
LONG - OPENING BATSMEN -
SUMMARY : Now its the turn of the days Big race, the blah blah Gold Cup , a 16 runner Hcap Chase and this looks uber competitive..
Last year's winner Roberto Goldback has to carry a stone more this time around, though is actually only a pound higher in the ratings. But he was a long way behind Wyck Hill in a later run over track and also had a rear view of On Trend and Opening Batsman in respective runs at Sandown and Kempton. Triolo D'Alene will be popular as he was a winner in this grade last season while Bouggler won a Listed handicap at Market Rasen, though is 10lb higher now. Twirling Magnet and Al Co are others with recent winning form and Quinz could be well handicapped. Buddy Bolero and Merry King are open to further improvement this winter but so is SAME DIFFERENCE. Quite highly tried in his first season over fences, his form ties in closely with a number of these but he was still improving in the spring and could go very close here if reproducing his second to Quentin Collonges in the bet365 Gold Cup at Sandown in April.

RACE 6
WIN - BEACHFIRE - ( NAP ) - 2nd @ 3.40
EW - NO NO MAC-
LONG - N/A -
SUMMARY : This closer was Won last year by the Uber talented My Tent or Yours and although i dont feel there is anything quite like that i dom feel we have a solid NAP in BEACHFIRE , a Course winner on the Flat and a Distance winner over hurdles this was rated 107 on the flat and was in a lot of group 1's and listed events racing against some serious black type and if this can reproduce the best of its form then this is a done deal , just weakened towards the end of its last race over 2m4 ( only beaten less than 2L ) this has the required pace to kill these between the hurdles and has shown he can jump , this could easily prove to be different gravy long term and i think it will be a minor shock if this gets turned over today.
RESULT :

Usual EW / Combi Multis and Placepot plus a good ol Lump on the Fav , Good Luck today all.
