Firstly i would like to congratulate myself on hitting 1st and 3rd in the Melbourne cup !!!!...( @ 8.62 & 12.19 ) , my first real foray into the world of globetrotting and i am very happy with th result, mathematically the fav had to be laid, that was a no brainer and a good bet it was , however the finish could not have been any closer!!, i actually thought at first it was a dead heat but Dunaden held on by a nose ( whisker more like ) with 50/1 uk shot red cadeaux running a fantastic race in 2nd...modun as expected didnt stay and was stone last..so a great morning all in all.
Quick note for AL 11 ,
Back bets - using my speed ratings these are the most logical and usually the fastest in form horses in their races , its not always about the speed but that is the over riding factor.
Value - these usually come 2nd in the ratings but will be one of two things , either so close to being a back bet they have to be in or are such good value that it would be folly to leave them out of the equation.
multi / extra - theses are selected if they fall within 3 points of the top two making it a close call and are usually a decent price , they dont often win but when they do its usually a nice price.
Market movers / money horse - these have no selection requirements , these are just horses that have had significant money punted into them thru the morning , enough to move there price down by a certain amount that sets a trigger off , it can quite often pay to follow the money.

Thank you it is a better understanding for me now.
