Juddmonte Time...

Yes it is time for some class racing again as we step into the York Mini Festival that is Host to a raft of quality races which have been well supported by some top quality horses with all the big boys coming out to play ;)).

The first Day Highlight will undoubtedly be the Juddmonte Stakes which will see a great race and duel between AL KHAZEEM and Toranado and my full reasons for thinking AK wins has already been posted on PUK Facebook page ( and was on Timeform Radio yesterday as well ).

The whole card looks traditional for York and includes a rather standard 3 ridic 20+ runner Hcaps so the card will require the use of my magic Pin..!!.

So lets crack on with the Opening day card and see if we can pull something magic out, i will say however for those of you backing remember this, never has a case of " horses for courses " been more apt than here as York specialists can often return to form for a one off virtuoso performance here having shown nothing prior and Yorkshire and Northern trainers should be respected in every race and at every level , CD Form is vital here and is almost a gtee of a good run.

                                                                     YORK

RACE 1
WIN - ABOVE STANDARD -
EW - DOCTOR PARKES -
LONG - WHOZTHECAT -

SUMMARY : We start off with a crazy 20 runner 6f Hcap and this is typical for York and could easily spring a big priced winner with the last 4 winners coming in at 7/1 , 16/1 , 9/1 and 14/1 with the most recent winners being typical " York " horses being Tax Free and Hamish Mcgonnagall.
So the big York runners in this are indeed CD winner Tax Free , Secret Asset , Face The Problem , Ancient Cross and Judge n Jury and tbh any one of these could easily pop up at big odds regardless of their respective form looks and any or all are worth a punt.
...so we have ... A devilishly difficult start for punters as most of these have a chance on their best efforts, though some arrive in better form than others. A market check is advised, especially regarding Mick Easterby's pair Ancient Cross and ABOVE STANDARD. The former beat Goldream and Judge 'n Jury here in May with Secret Asset, winner of this two years ago, a close-up sixth and recent Ripon winner Cheviot among the also-rans having been hampered at the start. But his stablemate has made giant strides over 5f this year and his latest fourth at Goodwood suggests he's well up to winning in this grade so he gets a tentative vote. Doctor Parkes won well at Doncaster on Saturday but now has a penalty to overcome and more interesting is Barnet Fair, who ran well in the Stewards' Cup after winning at Ascot where Long Awaited was sent off favourite but never figured after blowing the start. Zero Money and Lady Gibraltar also have each-way claims but Whozthecat has plenty of weight now and this may be too sharp for Ladyship.

RACE 2
WIN - THE GREAT GATSBY - 2nd @ 2.40
EW - BRAZOS -
LONG - N/A -

SUMMARY : Now its a small field but trappy little affair although two stick out as the prime winning candidates and they are Brazos who takes on his victor The Grey Gatsby once again  and again i think THE GREY GATSBY will come out victorious , yes Brazos has improved ( as he was entitled to ) but the Great Gatsby ( TGG ) is also entitled to improvement from race 1 to 2 and the extra distance shouldnt be a problem as he was full of running fto although i doubt if there will be much between these at the death and i expect a protracted battle to the line.
The remainder look a fair bunch and will make this a decent race but ultimately i feel the winner will be one of these two.

RACE 3
WIN - SECRET NUMBER - 3rd @ 7.0
EW - TELESCOPE - 1st @ 2.43
LONG - FOUNDRY - 2nd @ 7.10

SUMMARY : Another small field but an excellent looking renewal of the Great Voltiguer and on ratings not much to split the top 6 here although without question the most interesting horse has to be TELESCOPE who has been a horse that has been more Hyperbole than Wonder Horse and was very one paced lto when beaten for toe by David Livingstone and only a head in front of the seemingly tripless Noble Mission with average looking Hcappers in behind and considering he has beaten nothing but trees previously the form of that and his overall profile looks very weak but he is open to any amount of improvement.
What does he have to beat? , well for starters he has to contend with another " talking horse " and obvious improver in Foundry  and the rapidly improving Cap o Rushes who ran a good 4th in the Irish Derby after being labelled and probably tasked with being the " pacemaker " and then ran a cracker to win the Gordon Stakes so is entitled to be in the mix and will certainly test them all.
I think the Value call here could be SECRET NUMBER who was 5th in the above mentioned Gordon Stakes but was hampered several times when attempting a run and couldnt get out of the pocket ( still only beaten under 2L ) with a clear run this galloping track will def suit and  @ 6.0 is the right price to play .
The remainder will have a job on getting stuck in here.

RACE 6
WIN - BANADEER -
EW - TANSEEB -
LONG - COULSTY / THORNABY NASH - 2nd @ 8.42

SUMMARY : Now to finish both me and the card off we have a 17 runner Nursery for 2yr olds over 6f...sigh , it doesnt get any easier does it...
Mark Johnston is responsible for three of the top five in a fiercely competitive nursery and none of his trio can be safely ruled out, though Tanseeb finished just ahead of Ifwecan when a half-length second to Flying Bear in a similar contest at Goodwood when Jazz was a close-up third. The winner and Charlie Hills' colt are others for the short-list here while Richard Hughes rides top weight Coulsty, third in a Listed race at Deauville earlier this month. His trainer, Richard Hannon, also saddles Banaadeer who is only a couple of pounds higher than when a close second at Ascot and Ventura Quest won well at Ripon after coming up against a couple of potentially smart two-year-olds here on debut. Mary's Daughter won this at 33/1 last year and THORNABY NASH will probably also start at big odds but he has shown definite signs of ability and Redcar running gives him the beating of Morning Post. With Julie Burke claiming 3lb, he could be very well treated and should be thereabouts granted luck in-running.

RESULTS :

NOTE / BET SELECTION : None...will just be hoping im still in the PP at this time.....
