As you may or may not know i follow bloodlines quite a lot and find them intrinsic in my selection process , i also follow 1 or 2 blindly given the right conditions and here is a brief example of why.......
* Lady Rothschild enjoyed an afternoon to remember on Saturday when her three runners all promptly made their way from stalls to post to winners' enclosure, helping their owner to a winning streak of seven from seven. Trade Commissioner kicked off the hat-trick when justifying favouritism in the Class 2 Coral Challenge Handicap at Sandown. By Montjeu, the four-year-old is a first runner for Group 1 winner Spinning Queen (Spinning World), who sold for 3,000,000gns at Tattersalls' November Breeding Sale in 2006.
The day's second winner came from Haydock where another homebred, Great Heavens, took her tally to three from four after an impressive five length victory in the Group 2 Lancashire Oaks. By Galileo, the filly opened what was to be an equally successful afternoon for her dam Magnificient Style (Silver Hawk), whose 2008 produce Nathaniel (Galileo) was also in action that day as one of nine contenders for the Group 1 Coral-Eclipse at Sandown.
Lining up as second favourite despite having been off the track for 266 days, last year's European Champion Three-Year-Old fought off challenges from Cityscape and 11/4F Farhh after taking the lead three furlongs out to win by half a length. The victory was not only celebrated by his current connections, including the in form trainer/jockey team of John Gosden and William Buick, but also the team at Newsells Park Stud, who will be standing the King George winner when he retires from the track.
Magnificient Style has been an outstanding broodmare for Lady Rothschild, as the dam of ten winners from ten runners, eight of whom have done so in black-type events including 2002 foal Playful Act (Sadler's Wells), who not only won the Group 1 Fillies' Mile at Ascot, but also the Lancashire Oaks seven years before her sibling. The 19-year-old mare has two further produce waiting in the wings, a yearling and foal both by Oasis Dream. Their sire was represented by a Grade 2 winner across the pond on Sunday when four-year-old filly Quiet Oasis proved the best in a tight finish for the Royal Heroine Mile at Hollywood Park.
* Another member from Saturday's winning family, albeit further back down the dam line, was also to be found in the winners' enclosure at Sandown that day. Cavalryman rewarded his backers with a decisive win in the Listed Escher Stakes just 35 minutes after the Eclipse, putting four and a half lengths over nearest rival Aaim To Prosper. The son of Halling descends from Basin (Tom Rolfe), third dam to Nathaniel and Great Heavens. This diverse branch of the family has not only been responsible for the Grand Prix de Paris winner and Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe third, but also the useful chaser Double Honour (Highest Honor), top South African sprinter Copper Parade (Lecture) and New Zealand Derby winner St Reims (Zabeel).
* Absent from the Eclipse line-up was recent Royal Ascot hero and ten time Group 1 winner So You Think. One of Aidan O'Brien's many stable stars was found to be lame in his stable on the morning of declarations, and so with a book of mares awaiting his arrival for stud duties in Australia, the New Zealand-bred has gone straight into quarantine ready to embark on the next stage of his career.
* Irish 1,000 Guineas heroine and three-time Group 1 winner Halfway To Heaven (Pivotal) has so far proven equally successful at stud after her first runner, Flying The Flag, made a winning debut at the Curragh on Thursday. Saddled by Aidan O'Brien, who trained both the colt's dam and sire Galileo, the 5/4F rallied strongly to lead in the final quarter of a furlong before winning by three quarters of a length from Einsteins Folly (Whipper).
* Caulfield Guineas winner Helmet has been retired to stand at Darley's Northwood Park Stud in Victoria, Australia. The Group 1-winning juvenile, thrice a top-level scorer, was bred by Sheikh Mohammed and raced in the famous Godolphin colours; by fellow Darley resident Exceed And Excel, the precocious colt will stand his debut season for Aus$33,000.
